Paul van Zyl

Co-founder & CEO, The Conduit Club

Paul is a human rights lawyer who served as the Executive Secretary of South Africa’s post-apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission, working alongside Nelson Mandela.
In 2009 Paul received the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship with Juan E. Mendez, with whom he founded the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), an international human rights organisation based in New York City. Paul was selected as a TED Fellow and a Young Global Leader by World Economic Forum.
 
In 2018 Paul co-founded The Conduit Club. The Conduit is a community of people committed to creating a just, prosperous and sustainable future. Over 150,000 people visited The Conduit last year as part of its mission to develop solutions to pressing global problems.

Barbara Chesire

Managing Director at AB Entheos

Barbara has been in the insurance industry for 17 years and is a champion for inclusive insurance as a tool for poverty alleviation. An actuarial scientist by training, Barbara is passionate to see insurance play a role in increasing financial resilience across the continent. She co-founded AB Entheos in 2014 with the aim to build the capacity of the African insurance industry to offer meaningful solutions and to make insurance accessible to those who need it most. She has grown AB Entheos to be a world-renowned insurance catalyst that has projects across 10 countries in Africa. Humanity Insured and AB Entheos have partnered together to launch WILD COVER- a ground breaking initiative protecting people, preserving wildlife and promoting coexistence in Zambia.
  
  

John Mundy

Director of Global Partnerships, Climate Finance and Technology at One Acre Fund

John Mundy leads One Acre Fund’s partnerships globally, focusing on efforts to connect smallholder farmers across Africa with new climate finance and technology. He was previously strategy director for the World Food Programme’s Farm to Market Alliance and founding director of the Digital Climate Smart Agriculture practice for Mercy Corps. John is a board adviser for Producers Direct, and in 2015, he was awarded an Acumen Global Fellowship. Humanity Insured and One Acre Fund have partnered together to provide drought and area yield index insurance for over 200,000 smallholder farmers in Kenya, empowering them to build a future of resilience, prosperity, and hope amidst the growing climate crisis.
  
  

Emily Jones

Macro Insurance Programmes Lead, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

Emily oversees the organisation’s global portfolio of macro-level disaster risk financing instruments. Under her leadership, WFP’s insurance coverage has expanded from two countries in Africa to 23 countries across four continents, protecting 2.8 million people from droughts and cyclones in 2024 alone. With a background in humanitarian response and public health emergencies, Emily previously worked on pandemic preparedness and response with the Start Network and Christian Aid. Humanity Insured and WFP have partnered together make insurance that triggers rapid responses to slow-onset crises like drought accessible- helping to protect displaced people in Syria before conditions worsen.
  
  

Ajaita Shah

Founder & CEO of Frontier Markets

Ajaita Shah has 21 years of experience in microfinance, digital and financial inclusion, and gender-smart business models. She has built Frontier Markets, India’s largest AI-enabled rural commerce platform, empowering 35,000 women entrepreneurs to serve 4 million families across 5,000 villages. Her vision is to impact 50 million rural households and unlock $1 billion in rural commerce by 2030. Recognized by Prime Minister Modi on International Women’s Day, she has received accolades like Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year, Forbes 30 Under 30, and CNBC Women Entrepreneur of the Year. She is also UNCTAD’s first South Asia Advocate for eTrade for Women. Humanity Insured and Frontier Markets have partnered to provide a safety net for smallholder women farmers in rural Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, who are highly vulnerable to climate risks like droughts and floods.
